Did you know…The Adirondacks have suffered tremendously from acid rain resulting from coal-fired plants in the Ohio Valley and other parts of the Midwest. Acid rain destroyed the red spruce forest in the upper elevations of the Adirondacks and contaminated over 25% of the lakes in the park making them too acidic to support the surrounding wildlife.
