Did you know…. Afternoon tea may very well have been started by the French in the 17th century. Tea arrived in Paris 22 years before it came to England and was quickly fancied by the French aristocracy. It is believed that it was the Marquise de la Sablière who first added milk to her tea, a custom later adopted by the British. By the 18th century however, tea became an English tradition after Queen Anne chose to have tea over ale with her breakfast.
