Mushroom Dahl in a jar

Dhal is a hearty soup commonly eaten in many Southern Asian countries from India to Pakistan, Sri Lanka to Bangladesh. Traditionally made using split lentils (Dhal means “to Split” in Sanskrit), variations include split peas, beans and chickpeas. Vegetables and spices are commonly added bringing depth and heat to this versatile dish. Often it is served over rice or with a side of naan.

Our dhal in a jar includes split red lentils, a blend dried mushrooms, mixed dried vegetables, coconut and spices that bring warmth to this flavorful soup. Just pour the ingredients in a saucepan, add water, heat, stir and serve!

Pour content of mason jar into a saucepan.
Add the equivalent of 4 mason jars of water.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for approx. 45 mins.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with buttered naan or other flatbread.
Serves 4.

Variations: add chopped fresh tomatoes near the end of cooking or add half water, half coconut milk for a richer soup,
